Sample Required : Blood
Pre requisite : No special preparation is required.
Glycosylated Hemoglobin:
Normal: Below 5.7% (39 mmol/mol approx.)
Prediabetic: 5.7% ā 6.4% (39 to 46 mmol/mol approx.)
Diabetic: Above 6.5% (above 48 mmol/mol approx.)
Less than 5.7% Glycated Hemoglobin indicates normal levels of blood sugar. Increased risk of developing Diabetes is found in Prediabetic patients with blood sugar levels between 5.7% and 6.4%. Patients with HbA1c levels greater than 6.5% are usually diagnosed with Diabetes.
Interpretation
The findings of theĀ HbA1c testĀ help determine the percentage of haemoglobin being coated with glucose. However, these percentage ranges tend to fluctuate based on individual factors such as age and health status. For diagnosing diabetes or prediabetes, commonly utilized percentage thresholds are:
HbA1c Percentage | Interpretation |
---|---|
Less than 5.7% | Non-Diabetic |
5.7 to 6.4% | Prediabetes |
More than 6.5% | Diabetic |
