Liver plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy body. It converts the food you consume into energy, cleans toxins from our blood, and creates proteins that help our bodies function correctly. The Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT/SGPT) serum test is an essential tool doctors use to monitor the health and functioning of this crucial organ in your body.
The ALT/SGPT test is a blood test designed to gauge the presence of an enzyme known as ‘alanine aminotransferase’ in your bloodstream. This enzyme is typically found within the liver cells, where it participates actively in the process of converting food into energy.
- ALT Blood Test:Â The ALT blood test is essentially the same as the SGPT test. They measure the same enzyme in your blood and serve the same purpose: to evaluate your liver’s condition.
- SGPT Blood Test:Â Also known as an SGPT ALT test, this blood test measures alanine aminotransferase levels. When conducting this test, doctors will draw a small amount of blood from your arm and send it to the lab for analysis.
